“Discipline equals freedom.”
-Jocko Willink
In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill emphasizes the importance of having a written mantra, if you will, to repeat aloud to yourself every day. At first glance, it seems as if that’s just used for manifestation and a step of autosuggestion. I should say now that if you haven’t read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill then you’re reading the wrong shit. Go read that now. Anyways, I’ve just realized that there is another reason for this. Discipline. This task of writing something down and repeating it out loud every single day forms a habit. Habits create discipline. It might seem small but it’s a perfect way to start your day with a win. You go through a mental checklist, “that’s the first task done.” Then you move on and you start off every day already in stride. Instead of getting out of bed and doing whatever the fuck it is when you wake up, you start with two tasks: read your mantra and make your bed. Jordan Peterson talks about the importance of making your bed every morning. I suggest you look up a video of him speaking about it because he probably does a better job of explaining it than I would, so I’ll leave that to him. The bottom line is that these are two easy tasks that become building blocks for the bigger things in your life. You will be more motivated to go to the gym. You will be more motivated to get your work done. Why? Because you already took the first step that day. No one wants to move backwards. When you start each day off right, you will want to continue moving forward.
Another great task to build discipline is reading. Most people hate it when I tell them this. In an age where we’ve been trained to scroll like retards, nobody reads anything important anymore. It is an awesome way to do something that you don’t want to do because it catapults you so much further ahead than everyone else. There is knowledge in books that you cannot find in any YouTube video or documentary. There are books dating back thousands of years with wisdom that’s been used all throughout time and you’re throwing it all away to watch someone get hit by a car on Instagram. Get the fuck off the phone, and start reading. If you’re serious about this journey you will grow to love it as I have. The thought of a book used to make me want to shove a shotgun in my mouth. Now I read for fun and I’m writing a fucking blog. Trust me, it will be the greatest decision you’ve ever made, not just because of the content, but because it’s going to take you further as a man through building discipline. The Almanack of Naval Ravikant by Eric Jorgenson talks about the importance of learning to love reading. I suggest you read that.
If you’re not going to the gym, you need to stop what you’re doing, get in the car, and get your ass over there immediately. There is no better way to build discipline than going to the gym. I know it sucks at first. But if you’re looking in the mirror and seeing someone you don’t like, then I’m sorry but there are no amount books you can read to fix that shit. If you’re lost and you don’t know where to start, the first thing you should be doing is going to the gym. It will probably be the most physically exhausting task you do every day, which will make your brain tell you not to do it. When you get over that, and you start to see results and you feel better then it will become addicting. This doesn’t mean that you’re going to want to go every single day. But I will promise you that you will be damn glad that you did. This works in silencing what David Goggins calls “the bitch voice.” The bitch voice is going to sound like your friend. He’s going to tell you everything is all right, “lets chill today.” Nah fuck that. Go get after it. The more you tell the bitch voice to shut the fuck up, the more it’ll listen.
The final thing to start building discipline you should be doing every day is waking up early. No one likes that shit. IT BLOWS. Here’s some bad news, it never gets easier. But like I said before, the more you tell your bitch voice to shut the fuck up, the more he listens. When you wake up at 5 am, it forces you to go out and do something. You’re not going to wake up at 5 am for no reason. I suggest you use that time to go to the gym and read. If you do this you will have accomplished two tasks that 99.99% of the population doesn’t do before they even wake up. Then, with the rest of your day you focus on a plan that is going to help you attain your financial freedom, and you act on it. However, it’s important that you stick with this and you formulate a plan that you know you will be able to stick with. You cannot just say, “hey I feel motivated, I’m going to wake up early and go to the gym.” Motivation is bullshit. I know this has been said a bunch of times online, but it’s true. Motivation is absolute horse shit. If you’re not consistent with anything you do in life you will never see results. If you only show up to work when you’re “motivated,” you’re getting mother fucking fired. No one is coming to save you dawg. Understand this and you won’t need motivation. You have to want to be the man. If you want to be normal or average then continue eating cookies and being 50 pounds overweight. Good luck trying to find a girl who will fuck you or a man who respects you.
The more you practice these concepts, the more you will want to start implementing other things in your life such as prayer or meditation. Getting in touch with your spiritual self is something that is extremely important, but something we will cover in much more detail in the future. This set of tasks is essential for you to do every day to start your upgrading process. I promise you after one month you will feel like a whole different person. After a whole year, you will be completely unrecognizable and you will be well on your way to economic freedom and ultimate peace in life. I highly recommend you go on YouTube and search for Jocko Willink speaking about discipline. He is a master of this concept and is the best that I’ve found on explaining it. I also recommend you start by reading the books mentioned throughout this blog post and the previous one (Introduction to White T Poison). I encourage you to comment under this post one thing that you do not want to do today, that you will accomplish because you know it will bring a benefit to you. Accountability is extremely important. That’s a good place to start. It doesn’t even have to be a comment under this post. You can tell your parents or a friend. Someone who will ask you if you did it. This will make it harder for you to skip out on said task. Eventually, it will feel really good to do what you know is right and necessary, and that feeling is almost instant. This is what will start to turn you into the animal you’ve always dreamed of becoming.
